Alex Tanguay Fakes the Pants off of Kris Russell and Scores

Alex Tanguay pulled off this gorgeous dipsy-doodle move on Flames' d-man Kris Russell (see vid above), before burying a sharp-angle wrister behind Karri Ramo to put the Avs ahead of the Flames 3-2 during Thursday night's battle at the Saddledome. Tanguay displays some pretty amazing stick control and strength to make the initial deke that turns Russell around, and when he approaches the cage he shows incredible patience, all but running himself out beyond the goal line before sniping from a nearly impossible angle.

It was a beautiful moment for the Avs, but it all went sour as the Flames fought back to tie with 1:17 left and went on to win on Sean Monahan's OT winner.

The Flames are currently a menacing third-period squad. They lead the NHL in 3rd-period goals with 39, and have now won six games when entering the third period trailing (also tops in the NHL).

Oh, by the way, the victory was Bob Hartley's 400th career win. Hartley had some kind words about Colorado's coach Patrick Roy after the game in press. "It makes it special because the guy across gave me many wins," he said.

“It’s pretty sweet for him to get that against a team he won the Cup with back in the day,” Said Curtis Glencross, who netted the equalizer late in the third. “I imagine it’s one he’ll never forget and he came in after the game and said that his 400th win wasn’t as important as it is for us to get into the playoffs.”
