Foligno Praises Torts
Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella has been publicly "motivating" his captain Nick Foligno this month, using the press to call him out and ask him for more production, and that's just fine with Foligno. Foligno, who has one goal, eight assists and is a minus-11 this season, told the Ottawa Citizen the following: “I love how he empowers guys. When he comes at you, it’s really black and white. He has done it to all of us. The guys want to go out there and do it. Probably the hardest part in this game is to motivate each and every guy differently and he’s done that.” According to Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen, Foligno is grateful that Tortorella wants to help free him from off-ice distractions by getting his coaching staff to help more with dressing room dynamics. “It was much appreciated, knowing what he was trying to do,” said Foligno. “A lot of emotions were coming into it and I was probably getting away from (my game). I’ve learned a lot in the past month and a half. You never stop learning in this league.” Columbus is currently in last place in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 8-14-0. The were 0-7-0 when Tortorella took over as coach on October 21.
