Habs Lose Gallagher Indefinitely with Broken Fingers

Montreal center Brendan Gallagher will be out indefinitely after breaking two fingers while blocking a Johnny Boychuk slapshot on Sunday during the Canadiens 4-2 victory over the Islanders.

Per NHL.com, Gallagher will undergo surgery on Monday.

"Every time you lose a player that has an important role on any team, it's always a huge loss," Habs coach Michel Therrien said. "He was playing his best hockey, obviously. He's progressing every year, he's still a young player. It's a big loss, but what are we going to do? We can't feel sorry for ourselves. That's the way it is." Gallagher ranks third on the Canadiens with 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists).
