Hemsky Leaves His Feet to Smash Ericsson into Boards

Dallas' Ales Hemsky rattled the bones of Jonathan Ericsson with this booming hit, leaving his feet to deliver a big blow which then sends the Red Wing defenseman's head into the glass, bloodying it in the process. Ericsson quickly reacts by throwing a few blind punches and ends up being the only one penalized on the play. The hit, and the call, infuriated Red Wings' coach Jeff Blashill.

His protestations were to no avail, an the Stars went on to add two empty-netters to finish off the 4-1 victory at the Joe.

Dallas increases its lead atop the Western Conference to three points with the victory. They improve to 12-3-0 while the Wings fall to 7-6-1.

Ericsson's penalty wasn't the only difficult moment of the game. Wings' goalie Jimmy Howard had to be removed after being kneed in the head by Jason Spezza. According to Blashill, he's fine:
