Highway Robbery: Sabres' Johnson Stops Lightning
The Buffalo Sabres got tired of being the Tampa Bay Lightning's doormat and pulled out a big road win in their fourth meeting with the Bolts on Tuesday night at Amalie Arena in Tampa. GM Dubas The Sabres has dropped three meetings to Tampa already this season, but rallied tonight to secure the biggest win of their young season. The 4-1 scoreline sounds breezy but it might not have been such an uncomplicated finish had Chad Johnson not made this miraculous flop save to rob Tyler Johnson and whoever else was whacking away at the puck while Johnson lay face-down on his belly. The victory snaps a seven-game losing streak against the Lightning for the Sabres. Rookie Jack Eichel continued his torrid play, notching a goal and an assist for his first NHL road points. Eichel had seven shots on net, one off his season high, and got his first NHL assist on this beautiful feed to Cody Franson. “I wanted to get their ‘D’ flat-footed and I tried to back them all off,” Eichel said. “I saw ‘Franny’ going to the net up high and just gave him the puck. That’s an NHL shot right there, great shot by him and great to see him get his first.” Buffalo improves to 7-8 with the win, and they've now won two straight. The struggling Bolts drop to 7-8-2.
