Isles Hamonic Requested Trade, GM Snow Looking for Deal

New York Islanders' defenseman Travis Hamonic asked for a trade before the season, and GM Garth Snow has been actively searching for trade partners, reports SportsNet.

Hamonic, a 25-year-old top-4 defenseman on the Islanders, is considered by some to be the team's best blueliner. He's currently in the third year of a seven-year deal that pays him $3.875 million. Hamonic, who is from the Winnipeg area, lost his father when he was ten and reportedly wants to be closer to his family.

Newsday's Arthur Staple is reporting that Hamonic will address the media about the situation after Thursday's practice.

Snow has been searching for a deal all season, but with Hamonic on such a team-friendly contract and locked up long-term, the right deal has been hard to find.

Hamonic, in his sixth season with the Islanders, is 18-96-114 lifetime. He's a plus-24 in 342 games.
