Jake Allen Saves Blues' Bacon Late vs. Jets
Jake Allen made only 18 saves tonight against Winnipeg and finished with a .889 save percentage, but man did the New Brunswick native ever save the day for the Blues late in the third period when this Dustin Byfuglien shot nearly found the twine with :17 seconds left in St. Louis' 3-2 win on Monday. More: Daniel Sedin Bloodied By Inadvertent High-Stick from Gallagher Allen's positioning is perfect on the play and his glove is high and ready to react when he finally picks up the puck through the screen at the last second. That alone is impressive, but how about the use of the pads to kick the puck away from a drooling Blake Wheeler as it drops? Absolutely amazing puck sense from Allen. The Jets continue to sink in the Central Division and they've now lost six in a row. "It was a better effort," Winnipeg's leading scorer Bryan Little said. "Does it make it easier to swallow that we lost again? We skated much harder tonight. We were competitive in the game. We were down. We stuck together as a team throughout the whole game, and like I said, it doesn't feel better and make this trip better that we put in an effort. Sometimes it's not enough." The Jets are currently clinging to sixth in the Central. They're three points ahead of the Avalanche but Colorado has two games in hand.
