Luongo Passes Hall, Moves into 8th All-Time in Wins

Things got a bit dicey at the finish for Panthers' goalie Roberto Luongo on Saturday evening, but thanks to a gaggle of snipes from his forwards in the skills competition, Florida emerged with a strange 3-2 shootout win that saw goalies stop only one shot in the ten rounds of extra hockey (see video above).

Note: According to Eric Hornik, statistician for the Islanders, Saturday's nine consecutive shoot out is an NHL record:

From his blog:

It's the first time in NHL shootout history that there have been 9 consecutive goals…It's the first time a shootout has started with 9 consecutive goals…It's also the first time only one shooter has not scored in a shootout of at least 5 rounds

The only save of the shootout, made by Luongo on Isles' forward Brock Nelson, moved Luongo past legendary Glen Hall and into sole possession of 8th place on the all-time NHL win list for goalies.

Luongo is 408-339 lifetime with 69 shutouts.

Next to catch for Luongo is Tony Esposito's 423 wins:
