Tavares Skates, but Illness Persists

Islanders' star center John Tavares will miss his third consecutive game with a mystery illness when the Islanders meet the Devils on Tuesday in Brooklyn, but the good news is that the 25-year-old center found the energy to lace 'em up today for the Isles morning skate.

Though it was a good sign, things aren't good enough for Tavares to compete tonight against New Jersey.

Not great news for the Islanders, losers of three in a row, or Tavares, but at least his appearance on the ice should put an end to some of the rumors about his mystery illness:

Tavares leads all Isles scorers with 5-6-11 so far this season. The Mississauga, Ontario native has scored 179 career goals in six-plus NHL seasons.
