Tortorella on Penguins: They Whine Enough for the Whole League
After Columbus fell 3-1 to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night, Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella took to the media to lob a few verbal volleys at the Pittsburgh Penguins. Playing without Brandon Dubinsky, who received a one-game suspension for this cross check to the neck of Sidney Crosby on Friday night, Columbus gave up two third period goals to fall to the Blues. "He's contagious and he was our best player [Friday] night," Tortorella said of Dubinsky after the game. Then the creative, cantankerous Torts got into character and added some fuel to the fire that is still burning after Columbus' 2-1 OT victory over Pittburgh on Friday. “We’re not going to whine here. Pittsburgh can whine,” Tortorella told reporters. “Pittsburgh whines enough for the whole league, so there’s no room for any other team to whine. We just go about our business.” The Blue Jackets dropped to 10-15 with the loss. They have gone 10-8 since Tortorella replaced Todd Richards as coach earlier in the season.
