Panthers, Luongo Stay Scorching Hot

The Florida Panthers are red hot and rising. On Saturday the cats from Florida took out the Rangers, 3-0, to notch a franchise-best eighth consecutive win and help netminder Roberto Luongo earn his 71st career shutout to move into 11th on the NHL's all-time list.

Florida, which had won seven straight games on four different occasions heading into Saturday's game against the struggling Rangers, got goals from Logan Shaw, Vincent Trochek and Brandon Pirri to improve to 22-12-4 and leapfrog the Canadiens for first place in the Atlantic Division.

The Panthers also set a franchise record by earning their sixth consecutive home victory at BB&T center.

The Rangers, 21-14-4, lost for the eighth time in nine road games.

Luongo is now five shutouts from catching Ed Belfour and Tony Esposito for 9th on the NHL's all-time list.

Luongo is also only five wins behind Esposito for 7th on the all-time list.
