Watch: Evander Kane draws cheers after warmup spill in Winnipeg

Nothing like returning to an old home, where the locals know your name and chant it with malice. Watch (above) as Sabres winger Evander Kane gets a big round of applause after he falls on a puck as he skates out for warmups before Buffalo's 4-2 win over the Jets on Sunday.

It was a nice moment for Winnipeg fans, a die-hard bunch of hockey purists if there ever was one, who sat through three-and-a-half seasons of Kane's shenanigans, made less bearable by the fact that the former first-round pick and "future of the franchise" never owned up to what was perceived to be his potential.

Jets fans took their animosity for Kane (albeit good-naturedly) pretty far by declaring Sunday "Track Suit Night," as an homage to the time that Kane showed up to a team meeting in a track suit and Jets star Dustin Byfuglien reportedly threw Kane's track suit into a shower.

That, in a very tiny nutshell, is some of the sordid history of the dysfunctional relationship that Kane and the Jets carried on for nearly four years in Winnipeg.

And now, here is our pick for best track suit tweet (peruse to hashtag #TrackSuitNight to find your own fave):

Kudos to Kane, who is trying--with much difficulty--to make the most of a fresh start in Buffalo. He smiled big after his stumble in the warmups and he ended up potting a very unselfish assist on Sam Reinhart's empty-netter at the finish of the game.

Buffalo got the win, Kane got lots of negative attention, but in the end nobody got hurt anymore than they already were.
