Ovechkin Buries the Islanders--Again

Back from a one-game suspension, Alexander Ovechkin was back to business. The Great 8 drove home to the game-winner to hand the New York Islanders a 3-2 loss, making no mistake when a perfect pass from Niklas Backstrom slid on to his tape as he found himself backed into a soft spot in New York's defense.

Ovi's wicked one-timer moves him into 40th on the NHL's all-time goals list, ahead of former Washington Capital Peter Bondra. Next on the list for Ovechkin in Jean Beliveau, who scored 507 career goals.

Ovechking has now cranked home 86 game-winning goals since entering league, 16 more than the next closest player in that date range:

Career goal No. 504 for Ovechkin was also his 9th game-winning goal against the Islanders.

The Capitals improve to an NHL best 36-9-4 with the win. Ovechkin's goal his his 29th of the season. He trails Patrick Kane by two goals for the NHL lead.
