Oveckhin's Hatty Gives Him NHL Lead in Goals

Alexander Ovechkin has been barrelling his way to history ever since he laced 'em up for the Washington Capitals and on Thursday the great 8 made a little more history as he pumped in his 14th career hat-trick to lead the Capitals to a 4-3 win over the Minnesota Wild.

Ovechkin, who scored No. 507, 508 and 509, all in the second period, has passed Jean Beliveau to move into 39th on the NHL's all-time goal scoring list.

It was the first time that Ovechkin scored three goals in a period since March of 2008.

Washington improves to 40-9-4 with the win while Minnesota drops to 23-21-10.

The Wild have gone an NHL-worst 1-10-2 since January 10th.
