Panthers Miffed about Abdelkader's Hit on Barkov

Justin Abdelkader hammered Florida's center Aleksander Barkov (see video above), and the Florida bench wants him to pay.

Midway through the second period of Detroit's victory over the Panthers on Monday night, Abdelkader appeared to be looking for a clean hit but with the shifty Barkov lunging and with lowered frame, it was clear that the left wing got a portion of Barkov's head on the hit. There was no penalty on the play to Abdelkader, which incensed the Florida bench even more.

Immediately after the hit, Alex Petrovic was penalized for crosschecking Abdelkader from behind.

"They are going to do what ever the referees allow them to," said Jaromir Jagr, according to the Miami Herald. "It's up to the referees for it to stop."

Barkov left the game and did not return. According to the herald he will miss Tuesday's game against Buffalo as well.

"It was a cheap hit, I don't know how the ref didn't call it," Florida center Nick Bjugstad said. "It was frustrating, the whole bench felt that way. We're not happy with it. It turned the game around."

Detroit scored three unanswered goals to take the 3-0 victory.
