Backes Wins it for St. Louis in OT

David Backes opened the scoring--and closed the door--on Wednesday night as the St. Louis Blues defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 1-0 in overtime.

Backes scored on a sharp-angle shot at 9:04 of the extra session to give the Blues a much-needed victory at home against the defending Stanley Cup champions. Brian Elliott stood tall in goal, stopping all 35 shots he faced, including seven in overtime. Corey Crawford only faced 18 shots, the last one a seemingly innocent attempt from Backes at the goal line that slipped by him as the crowd went berserk.

The puck actually bounced off Blackhawks' defenseman James van Riemsdyk before caroming through Crawford's legs and over the goal line:

The teams will meet again on Friday in St. Louis at 5 P.M. Eastern time.
