Stamkos Has Blood Clot, and Maybe a Rib, Removed

Steven Stamkos has successfully undergone surgery to remove a blood clot from his right arm on Monday. According to TSN, Stamkos also likely had a small rib removed from his right side in order to ensure that blood flows without restriction in the region.

The two-hour procedure was performed Monday by Dr. Karl Illig in Tampa. Illig said in a statement released by the team: "Everything went as expected for Steven. We plan to re-evaluate him in about two weeks and we should know more about his prognosis at that time."

According to experts, Stamkos will be put on blood thinners--perhaps for as long as a month--which will complicate the star's recovery timeline.
