Watch: Couturier Hurt After Big Hit from Ovechkin

The Flyers suffered a tough break in Game 1 of their series with the Washington Capitals on Thursday night after Alexander Ovechkin gave Sean Couturier a rough ride into the boards in the second period (see the play above).

After the hit Couturier comes up lame, obviously favoring his left arm. When the puck comes in his direction he can barely grip the stick to sweep it away.

He left the ice shortly after the play.

The Capitals took the lead shortly thereafter on a power play goal by John Carlson.

Couturier, 23, had 39 points and was a plus-8 in 63 games during the regular season.

Flyers fans everywhere are howling in distress:

Update: Couturier is not on the Flyers bench to start the third period.

Second Update: Couturier will not return and will be re-evaluated tomorrow, per the team's Twitter:
