Barzal's Debut Marked by Head-Scratching Infraction

If there is one thing that could sum up the Islanders lacklustre 0-2 start to the season, it is this penalty by rookie centerman Mathew Barzal. The 19-year-old is just about to get released from a minor penalty during first-period action of the Isles 2-1 loss in Washington and he plays the puck with his feet still inside the penalty box (nice tape-to-tape pass though).

Bad rookie! Bad, bad, bad rookie!

Barzal took three penalties on the night, but did not impact the scoresheet in any other way. The No. 16 overall pick in the 2015 draft was paired with Anders Lee and Ryan Strome, and ended up with a +2 Corsi on the evening in just over ten minutes of ice time.
