Blackhawks Kicking Tires on Yakupov

Reports have surfaced that the Chicago Blackhawks are considering make a deal for Edmonton Oilers right wing Nail Yakupov. The first overall pick in the 2012 draft has never met expectations in Edmonton. He's picked up 111 points and gone minus-88 in 250 games for the Oilers.

The Chief at Barstool Sports first broke the news, which was later confirmed by TSN's Bob McKenzie and Sportsnet's Mark Spector.

Chicago is in a bit of a bind up front and has been looking for contributions from rookies Nick Schmaltz, Tyler Motte and Vincent Hinostroza after another season of salary cap madness. They are reportedly asking Edmonton to eat some of Yakupov's salary in exchange for some talent.

Yahoo's Puck Daddy Greg Wyshinski points out that Yakupov might be a good fit in Chicago because he wouldn't be expected to do too much, plus he'd be playing in a lineup that is well-coached and structured, and on a roster with some other Russian players.

It would certainly be interesting to see how the wildly talented Russian winger fits in on Madison.
