Five on the Fly: Burns' 800th, Kreider Smoking

Welcome to Five on the Fly, your daily stat rehash for NHL geeks and freaks.

1. Burns plays in his 800th NHL game

San Jose defenseman Brent Burns celebrated his 800th game by scoring two goals in a 7-4 loss to the Rangers on Monday night at Madison Square Garden. A quick look at Burns first 400 games vs. his last 400 games shows just how far he has come as an offensive threat in the league:

3. The six best PPs in the NHL (so far) are?

It's early, but Detroit stands out as a team that could have a much-improved PP this year. Looks like John Torchetti is a good hire in Detroit.

And PK Subban appears to be helping Nashville, but they were third-best PP in the NHL last year so it's not like they needed it.

4. Green's first career hat-trick

It's been a while since a defenseman scored a hat-trick for the Red Wings. One has to go all the way back to the time when a guy named Lidstrom played in Detroit. Heard of him?

5. Skjei and McIlrath struggle mightily for Rangers

Rough night for the Rangers' Dylan McIlrath and Brady Skjei, but San Jose was behind for much of the game so not sure how much stock we can put in these:
