Flyers Defenseman Del Zotto to Miss 4-5 Weeks

Flyers defenseman Michael del Zotto will miss the first month of the regular season with a lower body injury, Flyers GM Ron Hextall announced on Friday.

According to Flyers' Insider Tim Panaccio Del Zotto's injury is to the left knee.

According to Panaccio, the injury to Del Zotto could be a blessing in disguise, as it will allow Hextall to at least temporarily get the team under the cap by placing the injured d-man on the long-term injured reserve. Del Zotto has a $3.875 million cap hit according to General Fanager.

The injury to Del Zotto also pretty much assures that defenseman Ivan Provorov makes the opening day roster.

Provorov, 19, was the seventh pick in the 2015 draft, and had 73 points in 62 games for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the OHL last season. He also played a key role for Team Russia in the u-20 Worlds, earning 8 assists in 7 games.
