Mitch Marner's First NHL Was a Beauty, too Bad Mom Missed it



Auston Matthews isn't the only ridiculously talented rookie on the Toronto Maple Leafs. In fact he's one of five rookie forwards on the roster at the moment, joining Matthews, William Nylander, Zach Hyman and Connor Brown. While Matthews comes into the league with more fanfare (and more goals), Marner is a first-round draft pick (No.4 overall) as well, and he's going to be one heck of a player.

He scored his first goal during Saturday's 4-1 win over the Bruins. Check out the finessed little self-tap by Marner after he receives the pass from Nikita Zaitsev, so he doesn't have to break stride. The rest is history. The 19-year-old Thornhill, Ontario native was off on the rush and buried this wrister, using defenseman Brandon Carlo as a screen.
