Hoffman Facing Suspension after Brutal Cross-Check on Couture



Things got really heated during Wednesday night's Sharks-Senators battle at Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa. We mean REALLY HEATED. After Mark-Edouard Vlasic drew the ire of the Senators bench when he speared Erik Karlsson behind the play in the second period, Couture and Hoffman got into it mid-way through the third.

Couture knocks Hoffman to the ice, rather innocently, before heading to the slot to keep an eye on the play. Little did Couture know that he was being tracked by Hoffman, who landed a vicious crosscheck to the back of his helmet which earned him a five-minute major and a game misconduct and sent Couture to the dressing room.

Couture, the Sharks second-leading goal scorer, would not return.

Hoffman will likely be looking at a multi-game suspension for this:


It was a surprisingly chippy battle between the Sens and Sharks on Wednesday, which was won by San Jose in a shootout on a Kevin Labanc goal.
