Backes Fights in Return to St. Louis
It started as a tearjerker and ended as a massacre. On Tuesday in St. Louis David Backes, a key member of the St. Louis Blues since 2006, made his first visit to Scottrade Center as a member of his new team, the Boston Bruins. Things started nice and nostalgic with a video tribute, which saw Backes acknowledge fans as he was given a standing O. But soon, things got back to normal and Backes did what he did best. Drive oppoments crazy and--fight. Backes dropped the gloves with Joel Edmundson in the second period after he felt that Edmundson had taken liberties with David Krejci in a crease-front collision. The Bruins got the 5-3 win, Backes got 17 penalty minutes and everybody went home either laughing or crying. We'll call it a good return for David Backes. "It was tough, no question about it,"" Backes said of the experience of dealing with those emotions and the way the crowd received him during the video tribute. "The guys played amazing and we were able to get two points out of the game. I had the best seat in the house for most of the third period but that's part of the game."
