Bishop Leads Bolts to Win over Kings
Ben Bishop is undefeated since making his return from a lower body injury last week. Now, it's only two games mind you, but the Lightning were a team badly in need of some big goaltending when the 30-year-old made his return on January 12 against the Sabres. Since then Bishop has answered the bell for the Bolts, winning both of his starts and making 55 of 58 saves. Today Bishop stopped 31 of 32 shots to lead he Lightning to a 2-1 win over the Kings at Staples Center. The win was exceptionally big in that it came without Victor Hedman and it marks the beginning of a critical six-game trip for Tampa. Bishop made a rare puckhandling error that led to the Kings' first goal but he closed the door from there to enable Tampa Bay to improve to 21-20-4 on the season. Mistakes happen. It's how you react to them that really define a player. Today Bishop was up to the task. He's been the subject of trade rumors all season, but judging from the way that Andrei Vasilevskiy has played in Bishop's absence, a lot of the heavy lifting will have to be done by Bishop down the stretch if Tampa is going to return to the playoffs.
