Isles' Tavares Records 500th Point, Hat Trick
For those of you who have criticized the play of John Tavares this season just because he hasn't been able to single handedly keep the Islanders in playoff contention, here's a story for you: Tavares netted three goals and tied Derek King for tenth on the Islanders all-time points list on Friday at BB&T Center. Tavares hat trick was the first for an Islander on the road since Matt Moulson recorded a hattie on December 3, 2011 in Dallas. It was the sixth hat trick of Tavares' career (and first since 2014). His first hat trick also occurred in Florida in 2010. For those scoring at home, Tavares now has 100 more career points (221-280-501) than anyone else drafted in his draft claass of 2009 (Matt Duchene is next with 401). The Islanders got the 5-2 win over Florida to improve to 16-16-8, while Florida drops to 19-17-8.
