Kopitar Passes Gretzky on Kings Goal Scoring List
It was supposed to happen a lot sooner than this. But this is the year that Anze Kopitar simply cannot buy a goal. He's had just two since October 27th (four total) an he snapped a 12-game goalless drought to notch his 247th goal as a King to pass Wayne Gretzky and move into 6th place on the franchise's all-time list for goals. Kopitar also became the sixth King to appear in 800 games with the club, joining Dave Taylor, Luc Robitaille, Dustin Brown, Marcel Dionne and Rob Blake. Kopitar's goal didn't keep the Kings from suffering a tough home loss to the rival stars. Dallas crawls within two points of L.A. for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference with the win. "I don’t think we were sharp to the extent where we needed to be," said Kopitar. "Obviously too many goals against came off our mistakes. Whether that’s losing faceoffs, turning the puck over, losing coverage, it’s just not very characteristic of us. We’ve got to clean that up and sharpen up."
