Mental Mistakes Killing Flyers, Says GM Hextall
Flyers GM Ron Hextall is clearly not pleased with the Philadelphia Flyers performance as they head into a five-day break on the heels of a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of the Capitals on Sunday. But he's not naming names, and not over reacting. Oh, but it's pretty obvious he's not happy. "The worst thing you can do is over react when things aren't going right," said Hextall, who also says that he's not looking to make any big changes to the roster at the moment. But like any good GM, he wouldn't rule out changes if he found himself with an offer he couldn't refuse. "[over reacting] is not going to happen," he said. "But if we can find a way to make ourselves better, we will." Hextall says the team is not reacting well to its mistakes. "We have to react as a group better when something doesn't go our way. That's bottom line," he said. "Mistakes are going to happen. Unfortunately right now it seems every time we make a mistake it ends up in our net." The Flyers have gone 3-7-3 in their last 13 and they are on the cusp of falling out of the wild card spot that they currently cling to. Surging Carolina is just one point behind the Flyers with three games in hand. With five days off before a meeting with the Devils on Saturday, Philly will look to regroup. Maybe now is the best time for a prolonged break. "Quite honestly we're not very happy right now," Hextall said. "We clearly have to pick it up as a group--there's responsibility all over... Mentally we have to be better."
