Pavelec Wins in First Game for Jets

Ondrej Pavelec made his return to the crease for the Winnipeg Jets and led his team to a 6-3 victory over the Coyotes MTS Center. Pavelec made 30 saves in his season debut for the Jets. He has been a roster casualty this season in Winnipeg as the team elected to go with a younger tandem of Connor Hellebuyck and Michael Hutchinson, but both goalies have struggled along with the team, which was 20-23-4 heading into tonight.

"It's nice to get the win," he said. "Without the guys I wouldn't be able to bounce back and get the win."

The 29-year-old Czech has gone 8-7-2 with a .917 GAA for the Moose this season.

"Going to the minors at this point in his career is a humbling thing, and he figured out how to handle it right," Jets coach Paul Maurice said. "I'm happy for him." Maurice hinted that Pavelec will probably get the start in the Jets next game on Saturday against the Blues. "He's feeling good, we're feeling good, I probably won't be changing a whole lot."
