USA Wins World Junior Championships

It was the second shootout in WJC Gold medal game history, and it was a good one.

Troy Terry scored the winning goal and Tyler Parsons stopped Nicolas Roy to clinch the Americans' first WJC Gold medal since 2013.

USA came back from deficits of 2-0 and 4-2 to force overtime.

Both teams had several golden opportunities in the 20-minute 5-on-5 overtime, but it eventually went to the shootout where Terry played the hero for the second consecutive game. Terry scored three goals to help the Americans past Team Russia in Wednesday's semifinal shootout, before scoring in the fourth frame tonight with a low shot that beat Canada goalie Carter Hart.

The Americans win gold at the WJC under-20 event for the fourth time, and they have defeated Canada in the gold medal game on three consecutive occasions. The last was in Edmonton in 2010.
