Watch as Red Wings forward Andreas Athanasiou turns on the jets and splits two Penguins defenders to score a brilliant goal on Marc-Andre Fleury tonight at the Joe. Notice the back-checking forward that looks like he has a shot but ends up breathing Athanasiou's exhaust -- that's the speedy Carl Hagelin (also notice Malkin's meek stick tap on Athanasiou as he hits light speed in the neutral zone).
The unassisted goal at 1:46 of the third period gave the Wings a 4-3 lead against the Penguins. Mike Green has since scored a power play goal at 11:51 of the third to pad the lead.
With his ninth tally of the season Athanasiou ties his career-high goal mark, which he set in his rookie season in 37 games.
The 22-year-old London, Ontario native has now scored four goals in his last five games.
