Zadorov injured in practice, will miss rest of season

The Colorado Avalanche took a hit on Monday when they lost their biggest hitter to injury.

21-year-old defenseman Nikita Zadorov fractured his ankle after collliding with Mikko Rantanen in practice, and was quickly ruled to be out for the rest of the season.

“He got tangled up with Mikko and actually fell on top of Mikko, but his leg got trapped underneath Mikko and (he) fell awkwardly,” Avs coach Jared Bednar said immediately after practice, according to the Denver Post.

Zadorov was the Avs leading hitter and has played all but one game for Colorado. The 6'5" 230-lb Moscow native has 10 assists in 56 games and averages 19:03 of ice time per game.
