Pageau's 4th Goal in Double Overtime Gives Ottawa 2-0 Lead over Rangers

The Ottawa Senators rode Jean-Gabriel Pageau's hot hand late in regulation and then again in double overtime to notch a 6-5 win and take a commanding 2-0 series lead over the New York Rangers.

Pageau, who scored 12 goals in the regular season, now has five goals in eight games in the playoffs. None have been bigger than the one that beat Henrik Lundqvist at 2:54 of the second overtime to cap an improbable comeback for the Senators. The 24-year-old Ottawa native also tallied twice in a 2:17 span late in the third to tie the game.

The Rangers, who got a pair of goals from defenseman Brady Skjei, had three two-goal leads but could not hang on late. Pageau sealed his second career playoff hat-trick at 18:58 of the third with a deflection of a Kyle Turris one-timer from the side of the net. Just over two minutes early Pageau had brought the Senators within a goal with a similar tip-in goal from the goalmouth.

In the first overtime Mark Stone had a brilliant chance to score the winner but his shot at a wide-open net caromed off a Ranger defender and over the net. Rick Nash had a great chance for the Rangers after Craig Anderson turned the puck over but Turris made an incredible play to thwart Nash.

Game 3 will take place at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.
