Video: Matt Calvert Breaks a Stick over Tom Kuhnhackl's Back
Teams that take 2-0 leads in NHL playoff series go on to win that series 86.4 percent of the time. In other words, when you are one of those teams on the short end of the stick, you might as well break a stick on somebody's back in retaliation. That's what Matt Calvert of Columbus did in the waning minutes of the Penguins 4-1 win over the Blue Jackets on Friday night at PPG Paints Arena (he got two for crosschecking, and Kuhnhackl was fine). Between the whistles Sidney Crosby became the 5th active player to score 50 playoff goals and added two assists for his 11th career three-point playoff game and the Penguins took a commanding 2-0 lead over the Blue Jackets. Rookie Jake Guentzel scored his first career playoff goal off a two-on-one dish from Crosby to give the Penguins a 2-1 lead and it would stand up as the game-winner. Evgeni Malkin added a power play goal and Kuhnhackl added the empty-netter to stick the dagger in. After the final whistle there was a big scrum at center ice, and Boone Jenner and Scott Harrington were both given misconducts. Game three is Sunday night in Pittsburgh.
