Watch: Ovechkin Leaves Game after Crushing Hit from Kadri
Alexander Ovechkin was knocked out of tonight's Game 5 between the Washington Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs at Verizon Center when Leafs Forward Nazem Kadri took him out with a low hit after Ovechkin had moved the puck up ice. Kadri was assessed a two-minute minor for tripping on the play. Kadri went for a hip check and caught Ovechkin low in the left knee area. The contact actually looks to be above the knee but the collision causes Ovechkin's knee to be hyper-extended. Afterwards Ovechkin stayed still on the ice for over a minute before being helped off the ice by Nate Schmidt and Nicklas Backtrom. He did not put any weight on the left leg as he left. The Capitals cashed in on the ensuing power play, taking a 1-0 lead on a T.J. Oshie put-back at 18:15. UPDATE: Ovechkin is back on the ice to start the second period and he does not look happy. He threw a big hit on Jake Gardiner on the first shift and looks to be okay.
